Architectural Design Civic
Lincoln media center 1-small

Lincoln Elementary School was seeking a new media center that structurally complemented the Art Deco style of the existing building. In addition to the appearance of the new addition, the project needed to remain within a limited budget while providing state of the art equipment. Cavin Design Group was selected to design an open floor plan that provided students and faculty the amenities to enjoy the overall atmosphere.

CDG designed an addition that involved connecting two existing buildings through the construction of the new addition. By using two pre-existing walls, CDG was able to reduce the overall cost. On the exterior structure, Cavin Design Group applied two colors of brick, one being multicolored and a deeper tone to contrast the soft gold brick that accented the windows. These facades also included cast stone detailing, glass block, and curved walls that were characteristic of the original building.

In the interior space, the media center introduced an entry that creatively replicated the exterior architecture and showcased curved glass block. The facility featured cost efficient pendant lighting and a communication system for the checkout desk and computer section. Finish selections were applied to the cabinets and flooring of the media specialist work station and storage. The new interior details allowed students and faculty to function in a twenty-first century environment within a classic, historic style addition.
