Architectural Design Civic

With a growing congregation, Epworth United Methodist Church was seeking additional space to accomodate faith development and general activities. The new addition needed to appear architecturally cohesive to the existing building, with similiar details and materials. Cavin Design Group provided services that fulfilled the church’s expectations and produced unique design solutions.

One of the design challenges in this project was the building location. Construction of the new addition required joining an existing building at four different locations, all with separate elevations. The new structure features matched brick and similar details of the existing building, which flawlessly presents a unified compound. CDG also creatively relocated six stained glass windows, over a hundred years old, from the original church to the new addition. This reinforced a consistent appearance between the new and existing buildings. In the interior layout, the ground floor offers early childhood classrooms, a multi-purpose room with dining space for three hundred, and a commercial kitchen. On the second floor, there are additional classrooms for older students, an adult choir room, and a television studio.

This new addition encompasses all the necessary tools to nurture and strengthen a congregation. It is a welcoming environment and offers functional design to existing members and newcomers.
