Brookwood Baptist Church had a desire to provide adequate space for the existing congregation and future members. Budget was a main concern in the renovation of the building which would offer appropriate locations for various classrooms, activity groups, and a larger worship space. Cavin Design Group provided a preliminary report that included economical solutions in conjunction with 3-D renderings of the proposed changes.
As part of the schematic process, the report began with an overview of Brookwood’s history, needs, and goals. Direct plans for a modified site plan, worship center, youth center, education, gathering areas, recreation, and general facilities were also established in the report. This was to show the full potential of the existing space in a cost efficient plan. The new design allowed the congregation to relocate the worship space to the existing gym, which would be fully renovated to accommodate the large membership. The adjacent entry would be enlarged and feature information booths and a seating area. To occupy the original sanctuary, a new youth center would be implemented and offer youth worship and activity room. Additional renovations include a commons area with a cozy cafe theme, a preschool center, and extra classrooms on the second floor. To complement the new spaces, CDG modified the brick canopies to aesthetically enhance each entry. New signage was designed for the entries, including a freestanding sign facing ongoing traffic. Other architectural changes include an enclosed stairway and a patio for dining or leisure.
This project entails a full comprehensive study on building analysis and client needs. Its purpose is to accommodate the existing congregation and encourage new membership. It is currently in the process of Phase I, which is the renovation of the gym into a main worship center.
