After forty years of abandonment Cavin Design Group renovated a 1935 clubhouse at Lawson Court, a new community facility. The design challenge involved extensive repair and restoration of the existing building and the structural addition of a solarium. The new transformation would offer students the convenience of daily student living and leisure while retaining the traditional, historic design characteristics of the building’s architecture.
To accommodate students, CDG designed the spatial layout to offer amenities that focused on every aspect and need of the tenants. The facility featured a movie theatre, conference room, convenience store, hair salon, gym, tanning facility, laundry facility, and parlor. Throughout these rooms, interior details, crown moulding, and built-in shelves were maintained and enhanced with minor design modifications. These revisions were applied for a more interesting and developed detail design. In the parlor, carpet was pulled revealing oak wood that was restored with new stain and polished. To offset the wood, the parlor’s existing fireplace was redesigned with an intricately detailed wood facade accented with rich green marble tile. Decor seen throughout the clubhouse was a team effort by CDG and a special design group that selected the furniture and finishes to complement the restoration.
The overall ambiance of the clubhouse is warm, inviting, and spacious. The revived space is a central hub for students who seek the perfect place for social growth and living.
