The Industrial Training expansion for Canadian Valley Technology Center involved a 13,000 square foot addition. Cavin Design Group was selected to design a highly functional plan that would handle the project’s various challenging issues such as the narrow size of the site plan, code requirements regarding safety, and providing adequate space that would fit within the client’s budget. By evaluating the entire scope of the project, CDG was able to present design solutions that fulfilled the client’s needs and purposes in a cost-efficient plan.
CDG designed the new facility to seamlessly attach to the existing building and appear as a complementary structure with the remaining campus. For fire prevention and code guidelines, CDG installed a two hour rated wall between the existing building and the new addition. To introduce the center, a new main entrance was designed with a tall brick structure capped with a blue metal roof. This prominent feature allowed the entry to be identifiable and appealing. By overcoming the narrow site constraints, CDG was able to creatively design a spatial layout that adjusted to the proportions of the new addition. The floor plan was configured to provide enough space for two large shop areas with overhead door access, classrooms, and storage space. Overall, the expansion was successful in providing the students and staff the additional space they needed to grow and prepare for their future.
