CHICKASHA JUNIOR HIGH AUDITORIUM RESTORATION
The Chickasha Junior High Auditorium features architectural detail and design
that is reminiscent of the Art Deco period. Prior to restoration, this 1936
WPA facility was dated, in disrepair, and lacked aesthetic appeal. Cavin Design
Group took on the project of updating equipment, seating, flooring, walls, ceiling,
and matching existing materials to create an overall warm ambiance. Other considerations
that required attention were the selection of audio equipment, stage equipment,
lighting, and budget limitations.
CDG utilized the historic style and character of the building to influence the
design process. Renovations began with the repair and re-creation of damaged
ornamental plaster, installation of new doors and energy efficient windows,
and developing a soothing color palette. In the lobby CDG retained the existing
historic terrazzo featuring a pattern filled with a multitude of colors. This
flooring was the basis for selection of the complementary color scheme applied
in the lobby and auditorium. The existing structure, details, and flooring in
the auditorium were accented with various golden hues of paint on the surrounding
walls. The ceiling was also highlighted with fresh paint and new lighting that
was installed to brighten the auditorium. To draw attention to the stage, rich
royal blue curtains were added for visual appeal and harmonized with the deep
gold color scheme of the space.
The auditorium produced
an environment that was conducive to captivating a student audience. The improved
design sets the mood for any themed assembly and provided students and faculty
an impressive theater to display.
